My family acquired long-term care insurance from Unum 24 years ago because we have always been committed to keeping mom at home for as long as possible.

The 14-month journey to activate my claim has been difficult. I anticipated the long-term care policy would be similar to other insurance policies—you pay premiums, and claiming is straightforward when necessary. However, this process has been anything but simple, so I want to share my Best Practices based on my experiences.

For most of us, we purchase a plan through a private company like Unum LTC. but for residents of Washington State, there is another option.

Washington State is the first in the country to offer a long term care fund.

How does it work?

Pay, plan, apply, receive services. Easy as 1-2-3 (-4-5)
